Beyond the Edge-to-Edge: Mastering your Machine. (Continuing Education)

Ready to move past basic patterns and unlock the full potential of your longarm? Join us for a hands-on deep dive into the Handi Quilter Amara 20. In this workshop, we’ll bridge the gap between computerized precision and creative artistry. You’ll learn to identify "comfort shapes" to build your design library, master the pathways that connect complex fills, and experiment with thread weights that make your work jump off the fabric. Plus, we’re breaking the rules—discover how to use your longarm for projects you thought were reserved for a sewing machine. From brilliant shortcuts to "how-did-they-do-that" techniques, you’ll leave with a fresh perspective on what’s possible.
Fill your quilts with personality and precision! This workshop is designed to help you find your "quilting voice" using the Amara 20 and Pro-Stitcher. We start by identifying the shapes you love and turning them into a cohesive library of background fills. You'll learn the "secret paths" to connecting designs seamlessly and how to choose threads that add that extra pop of texture. But wait, there’s more! We’re turning the longarm world upside down by showing you how to tackle small-scale, "sewing machine style" projects with longarm speed. It’s high-tech tools meets high-end creativity.
Think your longarm is just for finishing quilt tops? Think again! This hands-on workshop with the HQ Amara 20 teaches you how to build a custom library of stunning background fills and master the pathways to connect them. We’ll explore the "pop" factor of different threads and dive into surprising techniques—typically done on a sewing machine—that are actually easier on a longarm. Leave the class with a toolkit of shortcuts, a library of new designs, and the confidence to say, "Yeah, I can do that on my Amara!"

| Instructor: | Loretta Morris |
| Instructor Bio: | Loretta’s first experience with a sewing machine was in junior high school where she made a pair of powder blue corduroy overalls. Those overalls were loved so much by all of her friends that she ended up giving them to her, at the time, best friend Janey. She didn’t touch a sewing machine for the next 10 years or so, until her mother-in-law gave her a sewing machine as a gift, and she thought, “What am I going to do with this?” So she did the only thing she thought she could do, she began making clothes for her children, and then she began making them for herself. She then ventured into rag doll making, selling those dolls at craft shows, and teaching at her local quilt shop. It was there that she laid her eyes on a quilt that she just had to make, so she talked the maker of that quilt into teaching a class, and so began her love of Quilts. Loretta started doing her own quilting on a HQ Sweet Sixteen® and graduated to the Amara® with Pro-Stitcher® 5 years later. She has enjoyed teaching others the love of quilting ever since. She loves art quilting as well as traditional quilting, and combining free motion, ruler work and Pro-Stitcher to create custom quilting. Loretta has 4 grown children and 12 grandchildren. |
